FACT and Sky have joined forces with regional police across the UK in a campaign aimed at dismantling illegal IPTV services that provide unauthorized access to premium TV channels, including Sky’s content. Several operators have been identified for offering illegal streaming of premium movies and TV shows. Each has since received a legal warning, either in person, by mail, or via email, demanding an immediate halt to their services or risk facing criminal charges.

FACT and Sky’s teams conducted visits at various locations across the UK, from London, Dorset, and Cambridgeshire to regions like the West Midlands, North Midlands, Greater Manchester, and even one location in Scotland. In addition, numerous cease-and-desist notices were sent electronically or by post.

Warnings Issued

Over a three-week span, 47 legal warnings were issued, resulting in the shutdown of most of these illegal services and the removal of associated advertisements. The use of cease-and-desist measures has proven highly effective in disrupting these operations. Recently, a 32-year-old Ipswich resident, previously warned by FACT, was arrested by the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) for continuing to sell IPTV subscriptions illegally, and now faces further investigation.

This initiative is part of a larger crackdown on illegal streaming, following other recent measures, including a new blocking order secured by Sky and intensified enforcement actions across Ireland.

Kieron Sharp, CEO of FACT, emphasized the risks associated with illegal IPTV services, noting, “Illegal IPTV providers not only violate the law but also expose consumers to risks like malware, data breaches, and identity theft. Consumers should be aware that these services often support serious organized crime groups.”
